Abstract: A February 10th, 1944 thank-you letter from Sgt. Sandomenico, of Company 557 in San Francisco California to the Men of the Department of Sanitation Band for sending a recording to their platoon.
Description: Two-page document comprised of two letters originally stapled in the upper left-hand corner. Accompanying the formal letter is a smaller, less formal letter from "Skippy" to "Stretch." Unclear if Sgt. Sandominco is "Skippy" of the letter, or the full name of the Department of Sanitation Band member named "Stretch." Address on the formal letter reads HQ. & PLOT. Co., 557 SIG.A.W.BN. APO 709 c/o Postmaster The letter references the desired end of the war and the 5th Ave. parade that would follow such an event. The formal letter measures 8.5" x 11", the informal attachment measures 5" x 8". Found among contents of a binder labeled "Sanitation Band Historical Collection, Bureau of Public Affairs, Compiled by: Joel Feuer." Unclear if the contents of the binder reflect the contents of Frank J. Lopiano's presentation to the Department of Sanitation in January 1984.
