The Abydos Project, sponsored by the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, represents one of the most ambitious and extensive archaeological research programs in Egypt. Abydos was the burial place of Egypt's earliest kings and was a major town and cult center throughout Egypt's history. The project's research covers many aspects of the site, including royal monuments of Dynasties 1 and 2, the early town site and its cult temple of Osiris, and the vast cemetery fields surrounding the town.
