Government-issued Picture ID for Access to NYU Buildings
Please carry a passport, driver’s license, or similar government-issued picture identification card to show to security guards at the entrances of all NYU buildings, including the conference, tutorial, and poster session sites.
Conference Venue
The conference was held in the Greenberg Lounge on the first floor of Vanderbilt Hall, which is part of the NYU School of Law. Vanderbilt Hall is located at 40 Washington Square South, between MacDougal and Sullivan Streets, on the SW corner of Washington Square Park, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, NY (view on Google Maps).
To find Greenberg Lounge, enter Vanderbilt Hall through the main entrance, facing the park. Show your ID at the security desk. Take a right immediately behind the desk, walk down the hallway to the end, and take another right. You'll see our registration desk there.
The Friday afternoon poster session was held at the NYU Department of Linguistics, 10 Washington Place (walking directions).
General Travel Information
This NYU visitor information site provides information on how to get to NYU by plane, train, and car. For detailed pre-recorded directions to the Washington Square campus via all methods of ground transportation, call (212) 995-4989, or view these online directions.
Subway Stops
Vanderbilt Hall is easy to reach by subway (view subway map -- look for the small green rectangle called Washington Square Park). It is one block east of the “W 4 St Wash Sq” subway station (lines A, C, D, E, and F), and within 10-minute walking distance of the following stations: “Christopher St Sheridan Sq” (line 1), “8 St NYU” (lines N and R), and “Astor Place” (line 6).
Parking
For nearby parking facilities, check the localized results at ParkMe, or this NYU parking info website. Parking is expensive!
Accommodation
New York City offers a host of hotel options, most of which are easily accessible to NYU by a short commute on public transit. A list of hotels in the vicinity of NYU can be found here. Nevertheless, because lodging options in the immediate NYU area are somewhat limited, we strongly encourage conference attendees to make reservations early, in order to take advantage of these options (and to take advantage of lower rates).
Suggested local accommodations are listed below, including hotels at which we have reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees.
The Washington Square Hotel is by far the most convenient option, located a 3-minute walk from the conference center. A variety of room types are available at nightly rates of $300-$350 (tax included). A block of Queen Bed Superior and Queen Bed Deluxe rooms has been set aside for SALT and may be accessed by following these instructions (PDF).
The Holiday Inn Lower East Side is a 30-minute walk, or 10 minutes by subway on the F or M line. A block of rooms has been set aside for SALT and may be accessed by following these instructions (PDF). (Nightly rates: one queen bed for $262, tax included; two double beds for $308, tax included.)
The Holiday Inn Soho is a 25-minute walk, or 15 minutes by subway on the N or R line. Standard rooms are approximately $280 per night (tax included).
The Hyatt Union Square, which is fully ADA-compliant, is a 10-minute walk, 5 minutes by taxi, or 10 minutes by subway on the N or R line. Advance Purchase rooms are approximately $375 per night (tax included).
Budget-minded graduate students might also consider staying in a hostel. For example, the New York Budget Inn (30 minutes away on the 6 line) offers nightly rates between $40-$80 for dorm-style accommodations with shared bathrooms.
Food and Drink
The venue is in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. Just start walking -- there are literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance.
Sign Language Interpretation and CART Captioning
Participants who request sign language interpretation or CART captioning should get in touch with the conference organizers (see the Contact tab) by April 7. They were asked which talks they plan to attend, and whether ASL interpretation or CART captioning should be provided.
Child Care

SALT participants who notify us that they plan to bring children to the meeting will receive the names and email addresses of other members who expect to bring their children to SALT, so that they may arrange for mutual babysitting services, if convenient.
Attendees who are presenting at SALT are eligible for a maximum $100 stipend to offset child care costs. If you would like to take part in this service, please notify us no later than April 30th, 2014.
