Abstract: Two articles from the Summer 1966 edition of Sweep Magazine, issued by the Department of Sanitation under Commissioner Joseph F. Periconi. The articles are entitled "Glamour Comes to DS: Citizens Committee Experiments with Chartreuse Baskets" and "Phil D. Basket Assumes Clean-City Role."
Description: These articles are uploaded with the cover page of this issue of Sweep which also has a picture of "Phil D. Basket" along with two boys covered in their own "litter" and being shown by a man in a suit how to dispose of their trash into the new chartreuse litter basket. The article on page 6, "Glamor Comes to DS" has a picture of Mayor Lindsay, Commissioner Periconi, The Rev. V. Simpson, and Clifton Phalen all holding the new chartreuse basket with a picture of Phil D. Basket on the side. The article on page 7 and ending on page 17, "Phil D. Basket Assumes Clean-City Role" has a picture of the new chartreuse waste basket along with a larger image of Phil D. Basket. Both articles reflect a renewed effort by the DSNY to encourage the citizens of New York to help keep the streets clean.
