Antikythera Mechanism
This collection is devoted to data pertaining to the Antikythera Mechanism, a fragmentarily preserved gearwork astronomical device recovered in 1901 from the Antikythera Shipwreck (c. 60 BCE). The collection includes the Polynomial Texture Mapping (PTM) files of all 82 presumed fragments of the Mechanism obtained in 2005 by the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum, Athens, together with brightened versions of the files suitable for viewing with the RTIViewer software distributed by Cultural Heritage Imaging (http://culturalheritageimaging.org) and versions of selected files reflected and/or rotated 180° to facilitate reading of the inscriptions.
