Abstract: Translating Latin American Extradition Treaties: An Exploration is a four-part legal translation of extradition treaties between Mexico and Chile, Colombia and Costa Rica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and Argentina and Peru. This thesis project adds to the field of Latin American legal translation because these source texts are not publicly available in English. The project represents a culmination of studies drawing from two courses: Legal Translation and Translation for Intergovernmental Agencies. India’s previous experience interning with the Department of Justice also greatly aided this endeavor. The use of computer-assisted translation tools improved the quality, consistency, and organization of the texts. India was able to thoroughly edit these translations in collaboration with her thesis advisor, improving her editing process. She also improved her country-specific legal vocabulary and knowledge of CAT tools.
