Abstract: This article explores what the Sudanese toub—a cultural garment worn by Sudanese women—portrays about the lived experiences of those who wear it. It includes a series of interviews with seven women who each represent a diverse range of attributes such as generation, upbringing, and connection to, as well as an opinion regarding the Sudanese toub. This article describes the complex struggles and multifaceted upbringings and identities of Sudanese women, simultaneously connecting their stories as one voice from the diaspora. In light of the ongoing war happening in Sudan, this project amplifies the voices of women bearing the psychological and physical brunt of the war back home.
