Description: | "The present study examines the status of women in the districts of the five eastern states of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal using selected demographic, educational, socio-cultural, health-related and economic indicators. Relative levels of gender development or backwardness is assessed both for rural and urban locations based on a ranking exercise. The emerging regional patterns throw light on complex dimensions of gender equality/inequality and opens up avenues for formulation of hypotheses for detailed examination as well as policy intervention." |
