Calabash: A Journal of Caribbean Arts and Letters

Calabash: A Journal of Caribbean Arts and Letters is an international literary journal dedicated to publishing works encompassing, but not limited to, the Anglophone, Francophone, Hispanophone and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. Affiliated with the Graduate Program in Spanish & Portuguese Languages & Literatures at New York University, the journal is especially dedicated to presenting the arts and letters providing a platform for under-represented voices from the Caribbean. The journal featured poems, short stories, one-act plays, interviews, book reviews, parts of memoirs, personal essays, critical essays, cultural news, announcements, and other new and emerging genres. Published annually between 2000 to 2008, Calabash was founded and edited by Jacqueline Bishop, Jamaican born artist, writer and professor of Liberal Studies at NYU. Highlighting artists and experiences throughout the Caribbean diaspora, Calabash and its collaborators aimed to create space for artistic expression not typically in the mainstream.
