Ageism and age discrimination negatively affects older people’s access to employment and healthcare. Ageism also manifests within families and has not yet been well studied, despite significant implications for the wellbeing of older adults and families. This paper takes the position that the problem of ageism in the family can be understood through the lens of larger social structural factors that shape intrapersonal and interpersonal relations in families.en
