Abstract: As recent dental graduates begin to influence professional thinking, the ideas of “scoping up” and “scoping down” are likely to redefine the dentist’s traditional role in the provision of health care. In either context, it will be essential for dental education to provide broader instruction in critical-thinking skills and assessment of evidence to address scientific uncertainty.
