| Abstract: | Following the 2024 publication of her book Towers of Ivory and Steel: How Israeli Universities Deny Palestinian Freedom (Verso), scholar and activist Maya Wind contextualizes the Israeli genocide in Gaza within a larger historical frame of Israeli and U.S. universities’ role in Israeli settler colonialism and military occupation in Palestine. Wind responds to questions about the “Palestine exception” in the Western academy; how policing, surveillance, and incarceration are deployed to target students and educators in the movement for Palestinian liberation; and the importance of solidarity organizing across universities and colleges in support of Palestinian and collective liberation. |
