THE IMPACT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS ON MIS DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION

Abstract

The appropriate design for an information system depends not only on the characteristics of the system users, but also on certain characteristics of the organization, e.g., technology, structure, and environment. Implementation is likely to be most successful when there is a “fit” between the system and the organization. This paper describes an emerging theory of how organizational characteristics determine information system requirements.
