Abstract: | Tony Monsanto’s artist statement for “La combate de cohones y iguana.” The painting is from his 1994 series called “La decadencia europa” which was first shown as part of a show at the Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo of that same year. Monsanto’s installations and paintings speak to multiracial Caribbean ancestry and the intersections of Catholicism on African religions and realities in the Caribbean. |
